She was mine! Lily Baker. At last I had my very own Slayer of the Vampyr. This was even better than the time I got my limited edition Lyta Alexander Babylon 5 action figure and realised she was an uber rare cos she had the Psi Corp black gloves variation

"Thank you for letting me read it. I made sure nothing happened to it."
I beamed a smile at him.
"Mr. Giles says you get to keep me."

I am grateful that she has handed me back my preciousss. She didn't even dog-ear it which is impressive for the uninitated.
"Mr Giles has deemed me suitable to become your Watcher. It is a sacred task, steeped in tradition that goes back eons.
You, the slayer, are the instrument, the vessel. I am the hand that guides you, makes you lethal and efficient in the fight against the evil horde."
I lead her out into the back yard where several other slayers are drilling some attack and defense moves.
"Today we will start with something simple. A test of your reflexes and senses." I motion her over to an empty area.
I go over to a side table and bring back a blindfold and a huge rubber baseball bat.
"These will be the tools for our first lesson in slaying, little one."
I say in my most dignified and sage voice.

"Wouldn't that make me more of a pinata than a slayer?"

"I will be the pinata. All you have to do is concentrate on the sounds of my movement and try to hit me with the bat. The deadly ninja assassins of legend are said to practice this technique to hone their senses. Well not with the rubber bat of course, that would be silly, but with ninja-to swords. Which is really cool and stuff."
I step back, and begin to circle around her.
"Focus on your other senses, deprived of sight you must rely on sound and....um smell I guess. Don't worry about holding back, you won't hurt me. The question is....can you even hit me?"
I try to be stealthy in my movements, but also to distract her with feints and lunges to keep her off balance.
