"I don't get your stories."

"Huh?"

"Why is there always an entire world between the characters and the one they love?"

"Oh."

"It's like they're not even on the same level. Why do you insert so much distance?"

My dad used to be real sly about the whole college thing. He'd bring it up while were out to dinner, which as one might assume, always resulted in a scene. So as payback I ended up going 1500 miles away from home, out of earshot of his constant nagging. Though now the lecture I get every time I forget not to pick up my phone is about my career. It's a vicious cycle. My brother is being a bit smarter about it all though. He's cleverly gone out and gotten a social life and therefore is rarely ever home to discuss his future.

I hear those things are nice. I've been meaning to look in to them myself.

It's so weird, man. He doesn't even have to finish saying the word 'college' and I'm on the defensive already. Totally Pavlovian, man.

Quite. Every single day I heard about colleges. And once I decided which I was going to, I heard EVERY SINGLE DAY that I should do something towards that. LIKE WHAT? No, I'm not bitter still... FYI I found your journal through rubeetuesday's. :)

Ullo :)
Hmm, you got that spiel, eh? I got the 'why are you not applying to Harvard or Cornell' one, which is about as bad. Puts a bad taste in my mouth.
