It's like you know your wife is going into labor with your child and you say, "Sorry. I can't make it. I promised the boys I'd hang out with them today." Except... you don't say anything at all. No call. Nothing. You knew what was happening, and didn't do anything. Because frankly, it's the SAME DAMN THING.
