Hellpp...who else has gauged ears??

I semi-recently started gauging my ears. I'm only up to a 10, but yesterday was the first time using plugs rather than hoop type ones. I noticed it was really red around the edge, and took one out, and notice it was bleeding...and it won't stop. The other is still in, but still bleeding slightly. Should I keep them out? I ended up just cleaning them up real good and putting smaller gauges back in. They still kind of hurt, but its getting a bit better.
