I hate how many stories that have "evil" antagonists build up the powers of those antagonists to a great degree early in the story, but then by the end, when the hero is winning the climactic battle, the villain seems pathetic and laughable.
I felt that was what happened to voldemort, at least to some degree.
keep your shit straight, I say! not only for continuity and believableness, but also because I'd be more impressed if the hero could best the villain when the villain is at his greatest strength.
