He slammed the younger against the wall; pinning him with his strong arms. The fragile vulnerability that the teenager showed was evident in his eyes and the older shut his own eyes for a moment.

Maybe if he closed his eyes; everything would disappear and he’d no longer be a sinner.

He felt two arms wrap around his neck and the younger boy gently laid his head on his shoulder. Like he always did; like it rightfully belonged there.

“Minho.”

He swallowed a gulp. He was going to cry, possibly.

“That’s… Mr. Choi to you, Taemin-ah.” He chastised softly; his voice a bare, hoarse whisper.

Taemin neither responded or budged; but remained in his position and instead mindlessly reached out to thread his fingers in the bottom ends of the teacher’s short dark hair.

“Minho.”

“Taemin.”

The younger boy finally looked at him; large, weary brown eyes- glazed from all the crying he had been doing- and Minho felt his resolve melt in nothingness with the unspoken words hanging in the emotionally-charged atmosphere.

I can’t have him; but I don’t want to lose him either.

Why was fate doing this to him? The one person he loved so much was forbidden to him.

“This is an awful place to say goodbye, Minho.”

Indeed, squashed between the lockers in an empty, deserted hallway in a quiet afternoon on the last day of the school term probably was neither the most comfortable nor most convenient.

But it was definitely the most symbolic.

This was the place they first met at the start of the semester where Taemin desperately attempted to pull the locker door open but ended up backhanding Minho in the process instead.

Besides, they’d already said goodbye at a much more intimate setting already.

“We’ve come full circle.” The older stated simply.

The younger gave a hollow laugh; so different from the cheerful, sincere one Minho was accustomed to.

“How poetic. I’m sure my literature teacher would approve.”

“Jungsu-hyung?”

“Yep. Mr. Park. He seems to like melancholic stuff like these.”

“Eeteuk-hyung is a romantic academic.”

“And you could be too.”

Minho returned the empty laugh. They were off tangent here; both refusing to reach the reason for them being there.

“Taemin-ah.”

Taemin turned his head away once again and clutched Minho’s bicep tightly-his small hand grabbing and wrinkling the tan fabric- and Minho felt his shoulder becoming damp with hot tears.

“I know I know. You can’t be a romantic academic. You’re too practical and mature and responsible to be one anyway.”

Minho’s heart clenched and he drew the boy closer to him.

“So here we say goodbye; you’re going to be SM Academy’s best Physical Education teacher and football coach, respected by faculty and students alike and a good husband to Miss Kwon and have the prettiest and most perfect babies ever.”

Life wasn’t worth anything if you weren’t in it.

Minho fought the urge to cry as he listened to Taemin sob uncontrollably.

“And…I-I’m going… to be the best… best s-student ever when the new school term s-starts. I’m going to make you proud of me, Minho.”

“I’ve always been and will always be proud of you, Taemin.”

And a tear fell from the teacher’s eye.

Things were back to how they should be; but why did he only feel nothing but regret?
