Summary: Key is the wedding planner for Minho’s bridal shop. He is excellent at his job and is somewhat of a celebrity status in the industry. What happens when he has no choice but to plan his ex-boyfriend’s/best friend’s wedding (of the year) for him?
“Congratulations, Key.”
“Thank you!”
Key hummed as he walked into the office, adjusting the printed grey scarf around his neck. It was nice receiving accolades so early in the morning. Luna, their receptionist at Happy Ever After, beamed as she passed him his daily coffee.
“Congrats on yet another successful wedding! You’ve really outdone yourself this time.”
“Aww, thank you for the compliment.”
“Nono, it was spectacular I hear. You should have heard the buzz in the industry last night. Nothing too hard for our wedding planner extraordinaire huh.”
The Mayor’s daughter got married to one of the wealthiest men in the country yesterday in a grand epic wedding that only he, Kim Kibum could pull off. Truth to be said, he was pleased with how it turned out although the bride had been unreasonable at some points and practically wanted the moon and stars.
“I can’t wait to see your next epic project. Which I think is going to be really soon.” Luna whispered conspiratorially.
Ooh. Something was afoot.
“Why? Oh. Wait. Is Minho seeing a major client like now?” Key guessed. He hadn’t seen Minho yet and the boss technically had never been late and had a daily work schedule than ran like clockwork. At this time he was supposed to be checking the shipment of veils or something. Only somebody very special would derail him from his usual schedule.
“Very major client; I’d say it’ll be a definite boost to the business when it’s completed.”
Key raised a perfect eyebrow. He looked in the direction of the owner’s office and walked a bit closer. He was getting curious to see who it was. Maybe he could go in on the pretext of needing Minho to sign some document.
“And they look so nice together too. I’m quite sure you would have heard of the bride-to-be, the actress and CF princess, Shim Eun Mi and the groom is the ultra popular R&B singer, Kim…”
She didn’t have to say another word because firstly, Kibum wasn’t listening and secondly, he got the answer as the couple walked out of the office.
Kibum felt his heart stop, along with time.
Why was fate mocking him again?
The groom-to-be locked eyes with him; bright eyes that he remembered so very clearly.
Key should have known-there had been such glaring clues- special client; ultra popular R&B singer?
It had to be one Kim Jonghyun. A person who fit the above criteria but not forgetting one very extremely important one- Kibum’s ex-boyfriend.
A female voice broke the gaze that they were holding. Key immediately looked away towards the boss who was trailing behind the couple. Minho gave the most uncomfortable and apologetic expression Key had ever seen.
“Oh my gosh; is that him?” She was so beautiful even off screen. No wonder Shim had earned her CF princess reputation.
“Hi! You must be the famous wedding planner; the one they call the ‘Almighty Key’? I’m Shim Eun Mi… ah; I guess you know that right? This is my husband-to-be, Kim Jonghyun.”
She was excitable and had the happy glow surrounding her as she shook his hand and introduced Jonghyun, failing to notice Key and Jonghyun didn’t shake hands. Jonghyun remained silent and just gave a polite nod, all while giving Key a piercing look.
“Ah yes, this is Kibum.” Minho tried to resolve the situation. Key had still not spoken a word and neither had Jonghyun.
“And... as I previously mentioned, we have to check if Kibum’s schedule can accommodate yours. If not, don’t worry, we have other equally professional planners.”
“Oh, I really hope you could be our planner, I just know our big day would be perfect if you were.” Key mustered a small smile-nothing more than a tiny up curve of the lips but it didn’t matter, Eun Mi was so happy she was oblivious anyway.
They’d left soon after, both claiming exhausting schedules to attend to. Jonghyun still had not spoken to Key directly and the latter had been too busy looking away and fiddling with the accessories on his wrist.
Key allowed Minho to manhandle him into his office. Only until he sank into the plush seat did his mind return.
“I don’t think you should take this project, Key.” Minho said in an equal, measured tone with a worried expression on his face. Why, was he afraid he’d fall apart and break? Perhaps, because he felt a weird sensation coursing through him; searing him from the inside.
Kibum drew in a long breath.
“And why not? I’m one of the best in the industry; of course I must handle it. Besides, think of all the publicity this would bring.”
Minho wasn’t fooled for one moment.
“Kibum, I know you’re the best and one of the most professional ever. But I also do know that Jonghyun-hyung is the one person you’d never got over.”
Minho’s direct words were so honest and true they sliced him into a thousand ribbons.
“I don’t want there to be a conflict of interest either. I saw the way both of you reacted.”
Like a pair of star-crossed lovers torn apart by destiny, Minho wanted to add, but that was a tad melodramatic despite it probably being true.
“I’m taking this, no matter what. You may be the owner, Minho-yah, but the client wants me on the job, so I will be. There will be no conflict of interest.” Kibum spat. There was really no arguing with him.
“Are you even serious, Kibum?” was the first thing that greeted him when he answered the call.
“What do you want Onew. Don’t you have to go bake some cookies or something? Remember to leave me some.” He quipped.
“I’m not doing cookies; no one eats cookies at an accounting convention. Anyway, that’s not the point.” Accounting convention; how fun.
“Jonghyun-ah… is getting married.” There was silence, like Jinki was trying to gauge his response.
Like he was waiting for a ticking time bomb to explode.
“Thanks hyung, I’m sure I didn’t know.”
“You’re being short-tempered.” Jinki accused.
Because he hadn’t had the appetite for lunch and was too busy doing site inspection anyway and was now having a bad case of acid reflux. His morning shock and mixed feelings had just all turned into a sense of empty tiredness.
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay. Are you feeling alright?”
‘Not really’ was the response Key wanted to give-his head, chest and stomach all hurt simultaneously- but there was no point in worrying one of his closest friends.
“Okay, scratch that. What a stupid question. Let’s go back to the original question. Are you serious about being wedding planner for Jonghyun’s wedding?”
“Let me guess. Minho was a tattle tale and told you.”
“Um. Yeah… I mean no. Minho didn’t tell me directly; he told Taemin because I was out having a meeting. With Jonghyun. And his wife-to-be. She was eagerly talking about having Almighty Key at Happy Ever After as a wedding planner.”
Oh how nice.
“So Beautiful Days is going to be catering for the event?”
“I…”
“Well, at least I have one less thing to worry about. I know you and Taemin will appear on time and with edible goodies for all the greedy, starved guests.”
“You’re being very cool about this and I’m not exactly convinced, Kibum.” Jinki muttered, his arms crossed.
“What do you think I should do then; scream and cry? I have no reason to.” His pitch went up a bit.
A/n: I desperately needed to write and post something; I’ve been working on a lot recently, but running low on the creative juices and since I’ve been working on this previously, I thought I’d post it. Though I must warn I have no idea how this story will go.
