When I see the Maten Kyoumon, I see things I don’t expect. Its province is governing evil spirits - it is the “yin” sutra. Seiten Kyoumon, its complement, had always held my deep-seated ideas of what a Sanzo should be.
I’m nothing like what a Sanzo should be.
Yin: light hiding in the shadows. Everything about this sutra has come to describe me. Yang: darkness at the heart. I know about this too. I’m a terrible priest, but what I’ve learned, I apply to my own situation first.
