Sunny had always been used to sleeping in the same room as other people. With her parents as an infant, with her brother and sister after her parents died, with Duck and Geoffrey, sandwiched between them after her brother and sister had disappeared. It seemed like her sleeping arrangements were always changing, so she wasn't shy.

"Duck and Geoffey," she said, still leaving out that 'r' even if she was old enough to pronounce it, "said it's a sleepover. But they said I couldn't hit you with a pillow."

"Awh, well," said Charlie, padding into the room in her bare feet and sitting down on the edge of the low bed. "You can hit me with a pillow if you want. We just won't tell them."

Sunny considered that, but didn't pick up a pillow to try it out. "Duck said I'm going to beat people with a stick," she said matter-of-factually, hoping for some insight as to just what that meant.

Charlie frowned for a moment. Her eyeballs still felt raw from all of the crying.

"Well, I don't think you oughta," she said. "Because you're real likeable at the moment, Sunny, and I don't think people like girls who beat them with sticks."
