This wasn’t what he had in mind when he'd suggested an alliance. Law had thought it was all straight-forward, something anyone who’d sailed as far as the New World would surely have already heard of, two Captains working under a declared truce towards a common goal. Not something he’d enter into lightly, but Straw Hat Luffy had an obviously strong moral code for a seemingly carefree pirate and Law had hoped that would work to his advantage.
Unfortunately, Straw Hat had his own ideas about the alliance.
Ideas that seemed to involve Law getting involved in whatever impossible goals his crew had set their minds to, no matter that saving the children of Punk Hazard was ultimately a waste of time that could be spent putting Law’s plan into motion.
Ideas that involved them being friends.
Ideas that involved them being even more.
He sucked in a sharp breath as the upper buttons of his coat were undone, freezing air a shock against exposed skin in the moment before a firm, warm mouth latched on to his throat. Luffy’s arms were everywhere, wrapped around his torso, fingers gripping his biceps, one hand moving to his hair and the other pushing beneath the thick layers of his clothing.
Apparently this was the reality of entering into a deal with Straw Hat; Law felt like his mind was spinning.
“We should be going,” he said, and he hated how breathy and uncharacteristically hesitant his voice sounded. Brow creased in confusion, hands hanging uselessly at his sides, Luffy’s breath scorchingly hot against his neck.
“Yeah, sure,” Luffy agreed easily, voice directly against his ear, a buzz of vibration that left Law shivering in a way that had nothing to do with the unrelenting snow storm. “In a minute.”
Then Luffy’s teeth were digging into the flesh of his earlobe, and Law’s hands were moving of their own accord. Gripping Luffy’s waist, holding him steady as he practically climbed Law’s body, his head arching back without thought as Luffy’s tongue licked a messy path over the shell of his ear.
“We should celebrate the alliance.” Luffy pulled back just enough to look Law in the eye, still close enough that he could taste the warmth of Luffy’s breath. His grin was sharp and Law didn’t remember his gaze being so knowing, and there was fire licking the inside of Law’s stomach, sweat forming between his shoulders. “We have time, right?”
Law felt himself swallow thickly, fingers convulsing against Luffy’s side. They needed to hurry, to take Caesar, to get off this damned island and head to Dressrosa, before everything went to hell. They didn’t have time for the way Law’s heart was racing, for the promise in Luffy’s eyes, clock ticking in the back of Law’s mind.
“Yes,” he murmured, watching the way Luffy’s smile grew wider, feeling anticipating curling within him. “We have time.”
