Usopp’s sat cross-legged on the floor, goggles pulled down over his eyes and a frown creasing his brow. The measurements of his latest experiment need to be absolutely precise or the consequences could be disastrous.
So of course Luffy chooses that exact moment to wrap a rubbery arm around Usopp’s middle and yank him backwards.
Usopp yelps, heels skidding over the deck, mixture upended over the planks and bubbling ominously, but there’s not much he can do when he’s being bodily hauled against Luffy’s chest like this.
He watches as that arm snakes out again and again, lightning fast, snagging them all, one by one. Chopper shrieks and Nami blusters as they’re both dragged into the embrace. Sanji’s thankfully set his tray of coffee down, but Zoro’s still holding his weights when Luffy strikes, which means they fall heavily to the deck when Zoro drops them in surprise, and Usopp winces as several planks splinter. Robin smiles, sliding a bookmark between the pages of her book to hold her place, before raising her arms and allowing Luffy to pull her from her chair.
There’s some grumbling, same as usual, and Nami tries to twist around to punch Luffy in the head, misses, and somehow hits Zoro in the kidneys. Robin chuckles as Chopper’s muffled voice claims he can’t breathe from somewhere behind Sanji, and there’s definitely a faint hissing sound coming from Usopp’s spilled experiment that he should really tend to as soon as possible.
But Luffy just grins, arms squeezing them tight, and nobody’s complaining, not really. There may even be some discreet snuggling, although Usopp’s sure those responsible would deny it if asked.
Still, maybe it was a bad idea to teach Luffy about the concept of sneak-attack hugs.
