I'm playing Tales of the Abyss again. Since playing Vesperia, Mike is now interested in the Tales games. Abyss is my favorite, so I decided to play through it again

I think the skits are there also to help you remember where you left off in case you didn't play for a while. That was the purpose of the skits in the really old Tales of like Eternia/Tales of Destiny II (same game different titles for NA localization).
To be honest, I don't think the story was all that great in Tales of Abyss, but it is still one of my favorites because they give every character a chance to have development. I also think because of exactly that, the story goes all over the place sometimes (especially if I go for all the side quests and things). Even if all the minor character subplots are related, it makes it difficult to focus on the task at hand. Personally, I love it, but if I think about it without bias, it's really just clutter.
And yeah the flying around and Arietta are pretty ridiculous. I do admit that the Arietta boss battles were one of the hardest ones... and a ton of fun to play multiplayer in.
Yeah, I think those skits would be useful if they didn't popup immediately after the cutscene. It would help if it was based on a timer. An hour later, "hey, stop screwing around, we've got plot to advance." Instead of just... immediately after a cutscene you get two or three skits recapping what just happened. XD It would also help if the US release had voices. -_-;;
I think it's not even the story itself why I like it, but just that when I got to the end I felt like everything was resolved. The other Tales games I've played ended like the characters could just keep going on adventures indefinitely. Especially Vesperia, the end boss was just yet another thing that happened in a series of unrelated things.
But maybe that's because they want to make a sequel and milk that fandom for what it's worth, lol. I'd play any game with Yuri Lowell in it.
