Oh yeah, and if those cupcakes they got you were like the ones Cheri posted a pic of on Facebook, I'm pretty sure those are the fancy cupcakes I've tried myself. They are nice to look at for sure, but eating them...they're just entirely too big and over half of them are frosting. They didn't taste bad, per se, but entirely too wasteful and unnecessary.
Yeah, the thing about those giant cupcakes is that they have to bake longer to get cooked all the way through, and so it comes out really dry or heavy. Especially with chocolate ones, because the cocoa powder changes the texture or something. I can barely eat half of one, and then maybe 1/4 of the frosting on top. Some of the others like the chocolate chip cookie flavor or the lemon poppyseed flavor I got taste okay, but it was like having a super sugary muffin. I had that problem when I tried to make green tea flavor at home, they came out more like bread and less like cake because of something the powder does to the batter. Anyway. I finally did try the plain birthday cake flavor, and it was really soft and light. So at least there was that. Kind of appropriate since it was my birthday.
