Title: Why It Is Worth It
’Verse/characters: ot4 (daniel and nash)
Prompt: 38 - touch
Word Count: 534
Rating: nc-17
Author's Notes: kind of a prequel to this. san francisco era.

These are things that Daniel wonders: how he can be asleep one minute, and the next Nash is buzzing to be let in to his building, and then Nash is pacing around Daniel's room rambling excitedly about some bands he just saw and the club they were in and the crazy stage-diving and the tiny tattooed punk girl who let him bum cigarettes and Daniel makes him take his boots off, and suddenly it's twenty minutes later, half an hour, and they're both stretched out on Daniel's bed and Nash is kissing his mouth and his jaw and his neck and murmuring "I should've called you and made you come with me" and "I just wanted to talk to you" and "I want you, I just want you", and then Daniel is flat on his back, thighs apart, and Nash is pushing his way into Daniel's body.

Daniel wonders sometimes how this happens, how time can bend like that around Nash, and how Nash is the only person it ever seems to happen to. It's as if he brings his own kind of time dilation with him, his own portable little force field, so one minute you're asleep and the next you're watching him bounce around your room telling you about a band you've never heard of, and the next after that you're on your back and he's buried inside you, fucking you easily, telling you he wanted you.

Daniel wonders how this happens, but he never asks. Sometimes he doesn't care, because sometimes it's enough that it happens at all, and he doesn't mind being woken up and kept up and he doesn't mind that Nash smells like beer and sweat and smoke because it's worth it to hear his voice, hoarse from cigarettes and a couple solid hours of screaming along with punk bands, murmuring "I just wanted you" against his lips, in his ear, along the tendons of his neck.

It is almost always worth it to hear that said without guile, without prompting, for no other reason than it happens to be true and Nash is too hopped up on adrenaline and too horny to lie.

And it is worth it because it feels good to feel Nash moving inside him, fucking him steadily, both of them sharing the same space and the same air, the bed creaking gently as they rock together. It is worth it for the sounds Nash makes and the look on his face when he comes, and it is worth it for the way he gets Daniel off and it is worth it for the heat of his skin under Daniel's fingers and the taste of his mouth on Daniel's tongue.

And sometimes it is worth it because Daniel likes sleeping next to him and likes getting up before him and just likes knowing that Nash wants to be with him.

Daniel wonders how it happens, this weird ebb and flow of time, and he doesn't ask because sometimes, in the wee early hours just before dawn, he knows. It happens because Nash loves him, and because he loves Nash in return, and not even the normal passage of time can stand up to that.
