The bad thing about being a Death Eater is that you’re only allowed to care about the Dark Lord. No one else matter, you’re supposed to let your human feelings fall away. Rodolphus, though, couldn’t.
At the end of the day, he would rather be with his wife than her Master. The Dark Lord knew this, of course He knew - He knows everything. And He relished the fact that the more He rejected Bella’s advances, the more she rejected Rodolphus and the fact that he just wanted to hold her again, after all these years.
Rodolphus just couldn’t hold a candle to the Dark Lord, not in Bella’s eyes, and it killed him inside.
