Summary: Percy's been promoted, but everyone's against it

Percy crossed his arms over his chest looking around his new office. There were boxes piled high containing books, parchment, quills and ink, and clothes, amongst other odds and ends. He would have to find an apartment soon, seeing as how he couldn't sleep in his office, and he was no longer welcome at home.
“Mr. Weasley,” a voice called out to him as there was a knock on the door, “your brother is here to see you.”
“I'm busy,” Percy informed her, probably Bill he thought, staring at the door, it wasn't that easy to get him to leave, he knew.
“He's says its important,” his secretary called. Percy sighed and opened the door. Bill was standing right behind the tall blond woman, who had stepped back rather quickly when Percy had opened the door.
“Go back to work,” Percy snapped at her, causing her to quickly walk back to her station.
Bill stepped forward and grabbed Percy pulling him back into the room and silently closed the door. “Explain,” he demanded, taking a seat on one of the boxes.
“There's nothing to explain,” Percy said. Bill raised an eyebrow.
“There's a lot that you need to explain, Why you shouted at Dad for one.” Bill said
“Simple, we disagreed,”
Bill shook his head, “I knew you cared about work, but I had no idea exactly how much until now.”
“What does it matter, I got the promotion I've been wanting.”
“And how long are you going to keep this promotion when they realize you're no longer talking to us?” Bill asked, “he's using you to get to Dumbledore and you know it, just come home now before you get hurt, I'll make sure that the twins, or anyone else, won't hurt you or even bring it up again.”
Percy shook his head, “I'm not going back, I'll lose my job.”
“There are more important things than your job.”
“Sorry, I don't want to be poor forever, I actually want to be able to go out and buy nice things for a change, without having to worry about money.”
“This is about money?” Bill asked, rising. Percy took a step back, Bill had never hit him before, but there was a first time for everything.
“That's partly it,” Percy said.
“You're more far gone than I thought,” Bill said, “we need to go home now.”
Percy shook his head and for the first time in his life thought that Bill might actually hurt him. However all he got was a glare as he took yet another step back, almost ramming into his desk in the process.
“Do you think I would actually hurt you?” Bill demanded, moving forward until he was directly in front of the young red head.
“It isn't all about money,” Percy said.
“Then what else is it about? Dad said that you were proud to be the youngest ever Junior assistant. Is this about power too?”
Percy decided not to answer as Bill continued.
“Well?” Bill demanded.
Percy sighed, “Dad has always been a joke, we've never had enough money because of his muggle likings, and now you're telling me that its wrong to want more than a low paying job in some back office.”
“I'm not saying its wrong to want more,” Bill said. “I just want to know why you're trusting the Ministry rather than your family.”
Percy stared up at him, he thought for a moment that it probably would be nice to go home, but to accept his elder brother's offer would mean he'd be stuck without a job, with the “Daily Prophet” constantly talking about him. Not to mention the twins, no matter what Bill said, there was no way they would let him get away with talking to Dad like that.
“I want money and power,” Percy found himself saying.
Bill fist came down hard on the side of Percy's face, causing him to stagger sideways, “maybe that will knock some sense into you,” Bill said, “I can't believe the Ministry has managed to break you so fast, build you up to their standards.” He turned and walked out.
Percy took a moment to register what Bill had said. Has the ministry broken me or am I just a git?
