Harry paced the room back and forth, occasionally looking down with the fear that he had worn a hole in the rug.  He was angry, filled with a tension he hadn’t know in ages and he was scared, and all this did was make him more angry.  He looked out the window, down into the school grounds searching for a getaway.  Hundreds of students were milling about, preparing for the trip home, the end of school year had finally come.  Harry knew a great many would not return, him included.  With Dumbledores passing many parents would feel Hogwarts was no longer safe.  He had tried arguing with McGonagall, telling her that that she should reassure them, no Potter, no problem.  The new Headmistress would of course have none of it.

A stray sock caught his attention, sticking out form under the bed.  Kneeling down to pick it up, he thought he might look under the bed for any other articles of clothing that may be hiding.  Other than a few dust bunnies the space beneath the bed was bare, save for a rectangle of paper.  It looked like it had fallen from under his pillow, he had to slide underneath the bed just to reach it.  The moment his fingers touched the fallen paper he knew at once what it was.  The edges were already worn from fingers holding too tightly, dog eared but even more endearing for this.  Harry rolled over on his back and slid completely from view, he wanted to look at this and have no-one interrupt him.

The picture was of the bed above him, he was perched on the end, it looked like many other pictures of him.  He was sitting legs slightly apart in his uniform, shirt untucked and hair ruffled, as if it could be any other way.  There was a strange look on his face that you probably couldn’t find in any other photo however, contentment.  There was a blur of black robes and blonde hair from the left of the picture as he was tackled onto the bed by Colin.  The boy had the cheesiest grin Harry had ever seen, he always looked like the cat that got the cream.  Many times he had told Colin to tone it down, he didn’t want anyone getting suspicious.  Colin didn’t seem to care if anyone knew about them, he was like electricity when he was with Harry, untamed and unabashed.  Which wasn’t to say he didn’t feel the same way, it was just, things were about to become so much harder.  Harry didn‘t want anything bad to happen, but bad things were  inevitable,  he just wanted to limit the damage.  Harry felt a lump in his throat, remembering the conversation of earlier this morning.

“So where do we start?” Colin asked, folding clothes and placing them into his trunk.

“That’s what I came to talk to you about.” Harry said, already he knew that this was going bad.

Colin stopped mid fold, there was obviously something in his voice; Harry found it hard to lie to him, to anyone really.

“You can’t come.” Harry steeled his voice as best he could.

Colin slammed the lid on his trunk down hard, unsettling his cauldron, which tipped over spilling hundreds of photographs onto the floor.  Harry avoided his gaze, they had argued this at length and every time he had managed to leave enough up for later discussion.  He knew that he couldn’t very well leave Ron or Hermione behind, but Colin, he didn’t think he had enough experience.

“Harry, I though that you said…”

“I know what I said, but, Colin, I think it’s better if you take Dennis and go home.” Harry replied, resolutely.

“Is it because I’m a year younger, is that it?  I thought you said I excelled in the spells we learned in DA.”

“I did.” he replied.

“Charms, I’m excellent at charms, better than Hermione, she even said so herself.” Colin voice was cracking as he spoke.

“You’re very good at charms.” Harry‘s voice lowered and for a moment he thought he might change his mind.

Harry didn’t want to let Colin see him cry but it was extremely hard when Colin himself had tears welling in his eyes.  He swallowed the lump in his throat and told himself that this just had to be done.  His hands grasped Colin’s shoulders, he had to make him understand.

“Colin, I don’t want to lose you.”

“You won’t.  I’ll be right by your side.” the younger boy sniffled.

“Do you still have your fake Galleon?” Harry asked, changing the subject.

“Yes, but what’s that got to do with anything?”

“Get it for me.”

Colin turned and slid his hand inside his trunk, after a bit of rummaging he held it up for Harry to see.  Harry pulled his wand out and tapped the coin gently, it glowed red, green, then back to gold.

“Now, if I need you, this will tell you the date, time and turn it over, Colin.” Harry said, excitedly.

Colin flipped the coin, on the back the picture was changing to a large multi level house that looked like it had been built in different decades by many different people.

“That’s Ron’s house.” said a confused Colin.

“Yes, and the dates six weeks from now, I’ll see you then.  If anything changes the coin will let you know.”

“I didn’t think I’d be able to change your mind.” Colin grinned, his face wet with tears.

Harry grabbed him and pulled him into a hug that he never wanted to let go off.  Ron had Hermione and he supposed that he would have them on the journey ahead, but it wasn’t the same.  Colin’s arms slid around his waist, drawing him closer, burying his head in Harry’s shoulder.

“If I want to talk to you, can I send you an owl?” Colin asked, pulling away.

“No, you can’t risk that.”

“Well, how will I be able to tell you…”

Harry pressed a finger to Colin’s lips.

“I already know,”  Harry leant forward, pressing his lips against Colin’s, his body trembling, and murmured, “I do too, I do too.”
