{Section 3 of Chapter 1}

I did not know what to think when we met up with the members of the Sun Knight Platoon. They were all… hung over. I saw it coming a mile away; nevertheless, come late afternoon, I thought they’d at least be capable of standing up on their own two feet without the use of their swords as sticks to lean on.

Not to mention, practice this morning did not fare well. They could hardly run four laps around the outer wall of the city before panting for breath and collapsing on the ground. I almost punished them but let it slide in the end only because we would be traveling a week straight for this mission. That should be enough of a punishment.

I looked over to see Captain’s unimpressed smile. He was sneakily pulling out cookies from his sleeve and eating them when no one was looking. Of course, that didn’t stop me from noticing.

We hadn’t had time to go to the kitchen so I opted to giving him my bag of sweets made by Knight-Captain Ice. I was slightly worried that if he ate the whole bag in one sitting he would have to go on a diet again. His last diet was truly torturous. For everyone. I’ll tell you this now- do not take away the Sun Knight’s sweets (unless you are Knight-Captain Judgment). Bad things happen to good people. I was no exception.

I stood up straight and with a loud shout, gathered the attention of the Sun Knight Platoon who were dazedly staring at the ground. I gave a brief description of the mission, made sure everything was packed for the long journey, and ushered everyone into a uniformed line.

It wouldn’t be practical to bring horses this time due to the thick stretch of trees we’d be travelling within. Running through a dense forest would be much faster than trying to maneuver through one with a horse.

With Captain in the lead and I off to his right, we marched through the city with bright smiles and waves. Once we exited the West City Gate we started jogging.

I assumed Captain would be the only one groaning because of this but apparently my squad wasn’t very enthusiastic about the workout either. I had to yell at quite a few who were lagging behind several times already. There was a large gap between me and the end of the line.

By the time we entered a forest, I was several feet in front of everyone, half the squad was powerwalking, and Captain was briskly walking at the back… and eating more sweets!

I had to reframe myself from screaming when Ed fell back to walk alongside Captain, pleading for a chocolate filled cookie.

What has my platoon become…? I wanted to cry, but no tears came. This was not the best way to start a mission. I could only hope that things would get better by tomorrow… And that the bag of sweets would be gone so that I wouldn’t have to deal with everyone complaining about not getting any.
