Longest Night [Sinistra family, G rating, for the Holidays challenge]
In the fire-lit family kitchen, Professor Sinistra and her young nephew baked oatcakes.
They split and spread honey on the most beautiful cake, and wrapped it in red cloth.
They carried it into the night, to the family's Sunrise Place.
They spoke:
"Star that warms us, family Sinistra thanks you for a year of warmth. All sweetness, all sustenance, all Life comes from you. This we teach, oldest to oldest. Our blood shows that we remember."
Two drops of blood fell onto the oatcake.
"Let the year turn. We wait."
They walked home together.
"Well done," Professor Sinistra said.
