Her small fingers clutch Dreilide's and her chubby legs kick against the waves until there's one forceful enough to shift his balance and engulf her head.
He hurriedly pulls her up. She coughs, spits out water, nearly cries... then laughs.

"She's lucky," Doc Weston says. "That eye isn't pretty, but" -- he winks at Kara -- "you should see the other guy."
Socrata's thin lips almost curve. She tilts Kara's face up for a motherly inspection, her hand the gentlest it's been in years.

Lee stares at her like she's sprouted wings.
"It's gonna be okay." She grins. "I've been to Earth."
