The bang of the shot keeps reverberating throughout his head although it's been days now. He's heard guns and even cannons many times before, but none have ever affected him like this. None make his hands quiver with just their memory. None impede his dreams and every thought. Nothing's ever shaken him to the core before like this, not even losing his son. Of course, that could well be because nothing's ever stolen the love of his life as surely as this one bullet. He should've killed both men, but his Belle wouldn't want that. She's all he still wants.
