Notes: I’ve no idea where this came from. I’ve not written any fiction in over a year, I’ve not written anything original in significantly longer than that, and I’ve never written a drabble. This is just what the prompt brought forth in my mind. So, yeah… nerves abounding here.
Chelsea stood slowly, her back cracking as her muscles stretched. She winced slightly at the pain and glanced at her watch. Twenty minutes was all it had taken to collect what was left. What she had spent years building the fire had destroyed in a matter of hours. She surveyed the ashes and soot around her.
She’d told herself these things happened to other people but not to her. She knew the reality now. She picked up the shoebox holding the precious few belongings she’d managed to salvage. Without looking back, she turned and began walking toward her new beginning.
