I keep hearing a lot of people talk about Thanksgiving, but I'm sure I'm missing some of the important details still. [ He gets the THANKS and GIVING parts, but the holiday itself is confusing. ] I don't even know where America is, or what the people are like-- [ Or what an American is for that matter. ] It's gotta be like one of the four nations ( Read more... )

In America, I'm pretty sure that shit's about celebrating the day they came over into the country they now live in, and some meal with the natives there which was supposed to be pleasant. After of course, they killed off most of the natives and took the land for themselves while forcing those natives back into small areas when they used to share all that land, and never even thought of claiming it as their own.

My American history is rusty, but I'm pretty sure their reason for celebrating it is that meal they had with the natives. Don't know why, unless their a sadistic bunch who gets off of ruining lifestyles with their shitty need to shove a flag everywhere and boast over being some 'free country'.

So maybe you can tell me why people celebrate it anyway? [ He looks hopeful. ]

It's an opportunity for them to gather and give thanks.

What do they give thanks for? [ Here's to hoping she doesn't say the slaughtering of innocent people for their land. ]

If what the person who responded first said is true, then that's a terrible way to give thanks. When I can, I will get to the library and see if I can find a book with a history on this holiday. I'm rather curious about why such a day is celebrated, why people are to give thanks and why turkeys are considered the main course and traditional meal for this day.

[If it's a day called 'Thanks Giving', she wants it to be a holiday with a happier connotation. But that's just her optimistic personality showing of all things. Watch as reality smacks her hard in the face.]

I'm curious too. You should let me know if you find anything interesting. I didn't even know there was a library here.

Yes, there is a library; in fact, that was one of the very first places I was shown.

[Then again her friends know her well enough to show her the library first just so her curiosity regarding other matters that doesn’t involve books won’t get her in trouble.]

If you're not too busy, would you show me sometime? [ He gives her wide, pretty please eyes. Being 13, he can still do that. ] A library in a strange city full of people from different worlds? That's gotta be amazing! I visited the Spirit Library once, but that was back on my home planet.

Pumpkin pie sounds interesting. [ And he already knows apple is delicious. ] I wonder how many people in the city are making them... [ Or how many invites he can get for that matter. He's starting to think like Sokka. ]
