It was over.
Icthior had been contained, the Rangers' badges returned to their rightful owners, and all was back to normal... or as normal as it ever got when you were a Power Ranger.
Only a few lingering side effects were left.
"That was, if I may be blunt, a stupid thing to do," Dr. Felix sighed as he finished his checkup of Bridge, looking at the results of the scans his instruments had taken of the Green Ranger's body. It was fairly late at night, and Bridge had been his last patient of the day. "It was bad enough that your comrades ran off, but you were already worse off than they were, so soon after you overtaxed your muscles in that death trap. Your scans show nothing abnormal, but I am putting you on light duty for your own good anyway. Commander Cruger agrees with me this time, fortunately; we'll give you one week to rest and heal, and I will determine if you can return to active Ranger duty after then. Come to me during that time if you have any complaints. Understood?"
"Yes, sir," said Bridge somewhat-gloomily, respectfully saluting Dr. Felix and leaving the infirmary, trying to ignore the dull but still-present pain in his back, chest and joints from both Icthior's attack and his straining to push back the pressing-in walls of the death trap he'd been held captive in. Now not only did he have pain, but he'd be out of commission for a week or more- light duty meant no morphing, no driving a Zord, not even being able to patrol much. He didn't mind desk and computer work, but that wasn't what he'd joined S.P.D. to do.
"How'd it go?" Sky asked as he entered their room, and Bridge sat on the edge of his bed, frowning at him, though glad that he'd waited up.
"My back hurts and now I have light duty for at least a week," he replied. "So I have to take it easy... sorry."
"Not your fault," Sky shrugged, pulling himself into a sitting position and reaching over to pat his shoulder.
"True," Bridge agreed. "Still... I kinda hate sitting on the sidelines while you guys do all the work. Somehow it doesn't seem fair." Sky studied Bridge for a moment, then stood up, stretching.
"It could have happened to any of us," he said fairly. "Come on, like I said, it wasn't your fault. Blame Bork and Ichtior... or, hey, if you want to go even further than that, blame Gruumm for starting this stupid war in the first place. And besides, a week isn't all that long." Bridge still looked gloomy, so Sky thought for a while before he got an idea. "I know how to make you feel better..."
"Oh?" Bridge asked, perking up a little bit.
"Take off your jacket and your shirt, and lie down on your stomach on the bed," Sky instructed.
"Isn't that usually followed by 'Now take your pants and boxers off while I get out the lube'?" Bridge teased, doing what he was told.
"Shut up," Sky grumbled. "...Yes, it is, but we won't be needing that. Not right now, anyway." He then placed his hands on Bridge's shoulders, rubbing them gently. He let out a little gasp, then a pleased grin crossed his face.
"Oh... lower, please," he sighed. "Yeah... oh... right there, right there..." Sky chuckled as a soft moan escaped his boyfriend's lips, his whole body beginning to relax.
"How does that feel?"
"Great." Sky paused only to find their favorite massage oil and apply it before he resumed rubbing, paying special attention to his lower back and shoulders.
"Don't be hard on yourself for having to stay out of the action for a bit," he said as he worked. "You're still alive, aren't you? All of us easily could have gotten killed by Ichtior, but here we are."
"Yeah, that's- oooh, oooh... yeah, that's very true," Bridge agreed. "I am alive... I'm happy to be. I'm happy we all are." After a while, when Sky could see that he was so relaxed he'd almost fallen asleep, he slowly, shyly kissed the back of his neck. "Mmmm... hmm?" he asked sleepily.
"Nothing. I just love it when we relax like this," Sky replied, kissing down the rest of his neck. "You look so... ...cute how you are right now."
"'ow come whenever you say 'cute', it sounds..." Bridge paused to yawn. "...like a bad thing?"
"...Shut up." Bridge mumbled incoherently in return and hugged Sky's pillow. "No..." Sky finally finished his massage and quickly changed into his own pyjamas before prying the pillow from Bridge's grasp and slipping into the bunk beside him. "Hug me, not that." Bridge obediently locked his arms around Sky's body instead, and the two adjusted so that he could use Sky's chest as his pillow. Sky could feel himself going red as he held his almost-asleep boyfriend; though they'd been going out for quite some time, he was still getting used to showing open affection toward him, even when they were in private. "So are your aches gone?"
"Mostly. You're the best," Bridge murmured in return. "Maybe I should hurt m'self more often, huh? If it means getting that again..."
"Idiot," Sky said, tweaking his ear. "Just go to sleep now, alright?"
"I love you, too, Sky."
"Don't you ever stop talking?"
"Nope..." Sky glared down at Bridge and began to do the one thing guaranteed to make his boyfriend fall asleep- stroke his hair. "Mmmm. Yeah, that's it..."
"Sleep. Now."
"Alright. 'f you insist..."
"And I do. Go to sleep."
"Yessir."
"NOW." Sky waited for further attempts to get the last word in, but Bridge had finally drifted off. He looked down at his sleeping boyfriend, loving the way he kept on smiling as Sky's fingers continued to run through his hair, the way he gripped Sky's shirt like a security blanket, his chest rising and falling with his deep, slow breathing. Sky then let himself begin to drift off as well.
I'm happy that you're alive, too, he thought, not even minding that Bridge had begun to snore. Just for the simple fact that we can have moments like this...
