“It isn’t permanent,” he says.
Shuichi kisses him, whispers, “of course not,” into the crease between his lips.
“You can’t stay.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
Microphone-gracing-fingertips dance over his ribcage.
“I don’t want you here.”
“I’m such a nuisance, always in the way.”
Cold air on his shoulders; a shudder rips through him.
“I’m serious, dammit.”
“I know.”
Chest to chest, his skin has never felt hotter, and he hates that warmth is no longer merely physical.
“You’re driving me crazy.”
“I love you, too.”
And Shuichi pulls him down, down into the bed sheets that no longer smell like women’s perfume. He doesn’t think they ever will again. He’s lost this battle, he realizes. Shuichi isn’t going anywhere. And he thinks that just might be okay with him. He’s lost the war, too.
