I'm a little biased (as a Foster Parents Plan volunteer), but I would absolutely recommend Plan if you are considering child sponsorship.
Firstly, Plan is completely non-religious. Secondly, you are not making donations to individual families, rather, your money is pooled with other donations to go toward child-centered projects in the community where your sponsored child lives. Plan regularly asks for childrens' input in decision-making processes and aspires to make these communities self-sufficient rather than providing short-term "solutions". Finally, they spend less on administrative costs than almost all Canadian child development organizations.
