Criminal Justice & You, Thursday, Second Period

Sep 29, 2016 13:34

Brian started today's class by tossing a standard pair of handcuffs to each student. "Let's talk about getting out of these bad boys," he said. "It's a useful skill to know." He proceeded to talk them through a couple of different methods before saying, "Go ahead and try it out. And don't worry if you get stuck, I have the key."

Ada...didn't particularly want to touch the handcuffs. She'd had enough of being restrained for one lifetime, thank you, and picked at the scars on her wrists nervously as she tried to figure out what to do.

She put them in her lap instead, and practice picking the lock that way, in case she had to get someone else out of handcuffs quickly.

Cosette thought this sounded like a fun exercise, and promptly snapped the handcuffs onto her own wrists -- a little too tightly, in her eagerness. Oops.

Over on the mainland her father was probably having such an unexplained case of Bad Feelings right now.

But Cosette had learned how to pop a padlock using a shim a couple of semesters ago, and she was nothing if not persistent, and she managed to get herself out of the handcuffs in decent (if nowhere near record) time.

And she would spend the rest of the class period rubbing at her wrists, more likely than not.

So something's going on with LJ and despite trying to get it to post in the FH comm like four different ways, this entry landed in Brian's LJ. So I gave up.
