Summary: When he perched on a roof, or high place it was a reminder to a simpler time and a secret place.

When Kuja was young, as in his hands were small, his arms short, his legs chubby and cute the very essence of a cherub child, he had a different view of the world. Kuja was different from the other mindless drones that populated Terra; he thirsted for things, like being the best. However, at that juncture in life, because he never truly aged, he was unaware of these feelings and exactly what they were assigned too. The closest to explain would be innocent, but that wasn’t quite right either, perhaps ignorant would be best to assign.

Kuja always liked high places, and his favorite place would always been the very roof top of the leader of Terra. He climbed up onto the roof with childish muster whenever he had a chance, for the feeling he was unable to describe at that time. In the future he would come to know it as freedom, but at that time it was like a whole world to himself. The roof had a comfortable little gully just between the two high slopes that made up its shape, and at most when he went missing he could be found there. Dragging his books, scrolls, or whatever meal he had managed to worm away from into the gully where he would reside. That was the closest he could be to being pure, with a half raised lip that was not yet a sneer but more a half-grin.

Looking out from his vantage point on the roof, the feeling of freedom making him heady, and watching the others scurry below him giving him the illusion of superiority long before he knew what it was to feel superior. The roof was symbolic to that which he had lost, gained, and would never have, for it would always bring memories, jaded as they were, to a time when he could almost be a child. Standing , laying, sitting, and sometimes sleeping upon the roof left him with a clear view and a simple feeling, completion would be a close description. A simple feeling for a simple time, and because of that time spent on the roof long ago is why he preferred high places and speaking from a high vantage point.
