3 of Stephanie Meyer's "Twilight" series are on Amazon's top 10 bestseller list. Clearly this indicates we should switch to a more vampire-centric philosophical model.
I would have thought an Objectivist would be the last person to consider popularity amongst the unwashed masses as a positive thing.
Don't you think Rand would resent the way her book (and her message) is being corrupted into a populist screed?
I saw a video the other day with Glenn Beck plugging Atlas Shrugged. It struck me as highly ironic; I can't think of a single journalist in Rand's work that she portrays in a positive light. They're almost always the voice of the clamoring masses. And they are now, especially in the case of a buffoon like Beck.
I retain an affinity for Rand's characters. It drives me nuts to see a generation of do-nothing/know-nothing anti-tax twerps fashioning themselves as Galtian heroes. They have no right to that legacy; if they were ever to "go Galt," we would be just fine without the lot of them.
