Hi! I was in the mood for a meme and happened to come across this one from Metinall3. It’s a little long, but I hope y’all enjoy!
1. Favorite childhood book?
Boxcar Children, Amelia Bedilia, and Henry and Mudge.
2. What are you reading right now?
Business Law Textbook
Financial Accounting Study Guide
The Spirit War by Rachel Aaron
Resenting the Hero by Moira J. Moore
3. What books do you have on request at the library?
Heir of Novron by Michael Sullivan (Third book in Ryria Revelations)
4. Bad book habit?
Sitting up late reading, knowing I’m too tired to pay attention, and too lazy to put the book down and turn out the light ….
5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
The Spirit War by Rachel Aaron
6. Do you have an e-reader?
No.
7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
I usually have at least one textbook and one reading pleasure going on at the same time, but otherwise I usually stick to one fiction book at a time. (Except right now, of course - I sharing the library book with my sister, which means I have to have something else to entertain myself with when she has the library book …..)
8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
Um, since I started hanging out on Sounis, I’ve gotten lots of great recommendations, and some of them were out of my normal comfort zone, so it’s been great expanding my horizons.
9. Least favourite book you read this year (so far)?
I haven’t actually read much this year, but so far it will probably be Resenting the Hero.
10. Favorite book you’ve read this year?
So far, probably Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
I’ve been getting into more modern settings in my books, instead of all medieval.
12. What is your reading comfort zone?
YA Fantasy, set in a medieval period.
13. Can you read on the bus?
Only if it’s out loud. Otherwise I get sick.
14. Favorite place to read?
Curled up in my room.
15. What is your policy on book lending?
I only did it once, and didn’t get the book back for almost 2 years, and the cover was all ratty looking. So, it’s pretty much a no.
16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
Nope.
17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
Nope.
18. Not even with text books?
My textbooks are usually rentals, so I’m supposed to keep that to a minimum…..
19. What is your favourite language to read in?
English.
20. What makes you love a book?
Characters ( I like to see character development), plot (twists and turns that I don’t see a mile in advance), writing (and please don’t get me started on typographical errors in books), setting (mostly medieval, but a few modern settings creeping in), and the connection I feel to the characters/settings/mood.
21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
I think more people should read it!! :)
22. Favorite genre?
YA Fantasy, though I guess a few Sci-Fi’s are starting to creep in …
23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did)?
Someday I’ll take a shot at mysteries ….
24. Favourite biography?
None that come to mind (as a book - don’t get me started on video ones …..).
25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
I have. Some were for writing specific documents. I’m reading one to take a test now.
26. Favourite cookbook?
The one my mom put together with clippings she’s found over the years, and the chocolate smeared ones we’ve added more recently.
27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
None this year. Ever would probably be Tuesdays with Morrie.
28. Favorite reading snack?
None specifically. I don’t usually eat and read……
29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
Can’t really come up with one right now ….
30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
I’ve stopped looking at the “professional” reviews after one review stated there were “vicious attack birds” in Dawn Cook’s First Truth, when it was really just a pet kestrel who protected her mistress from people the kestrel perceived as a threat. The bird was not trained to attack, and certainly was not vicious.
31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
I don’t usually, just because it didn’t’ click for me doesn’t mean it won’t click for someone else. Only if there’s what we refer to as “content.”
32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?
Italian.
33. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read?
Ivanhoe. We actually read the whole book - out loud! - including all the old-fashioned wording and the chapter in which a prior and a priest yelled at each other “in increasingly bad Latin.”
34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
Notary Public Handbook.
35. Favorite Poet?
Shel Silverstein.
36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
About 2 or 3.
37. How often have you returned books to the library unread?
Rarely. Maybe only partially read.
38. Favorite fictional character?
Meliara! Jiaan! Nya! Katniss!
39. Favourite fictional villain?
Danric! Hah! Got you there. Mel started out thinking he was a villain, and he really was a great guy!
40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
Crown Duel or Forging the Sword.
41. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
Pleasure books or just reading????
42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
I think it was called Game of Thrones. There was content and language issues.
43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
I usually get too lost in the book …..
44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
Holes. The book is by Louis Sacher. Both are really great, and the movie follows the book almost exactly.
45. Most disappointing film adaptation?
The Hunger Games. I was hoping it would follow the book more closely. (Although me and my sister will be watching Eragon which might push The Hunger Games out of the top spot …)
46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
$25-$30 mostly for music books. We have a great little used book store where we get a lot of books.
47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
Not too often. I usually check out the reviews online and then just jump in. I might try reading the first chapter a bit ….
48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
Content, graphic violence, and/or language all together.
49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
Like? Sure. In practice? *whistles innocently*
50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
Since most of my books come from the library, they go back when I’m done. The ones I really like I pick up elsewhere.
51. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding?
Twilight. That goes for the movie too. I actually got asked if the newest movie is good. Some guy was going to watch it with his wife and asked me when I was ringing up his order if I thought it was good. I declined from telling him to run in the opposite direction ….
52. Name a book that made you angry.
When I saw Game of Thrones on a 10th grade reading list and so assumed that if a 10th grader could read it without content/language issues, so could I. BIG Mistake!
53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did?
The Hunger Games. I thought there was going to be a great deal of violence to it. It was also a completely different genre.
54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t?
Can’t come up with one right now …..
55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?
Crown Duel!!!!! Forging the Sword!!!!! King of Attolia!!!!!
Have a great day!! :)
