There was a kid in my home town who died because of not getting vaccinated. Of course, in my home town, there's still quite a few people who remember that the germ theory of disease is just that- a theory. After all, preacher tells us that the true cause of disease is demon possession!
I don't know, it seems like Darwinism in action. A way for stupid people who have already procreated to kill off their offspring, thus save the rest of humanity from having their stupid gene spread further into the gene pool.
Yeah, I too am a fan of the Darwin Awards, because those stupid folks get themselves killed before procreating. However, the Misguided Mom's in question may get more than their own kids killed if there is an outbreak.
Actually, I do know some one who had medical problems linked to mercury in vaccinations - but it was mercury poisoning, not autism. According to my midwife, autism and vaccinations aren't strongly linked at all and current research shows that increased use of ultrasounds might be the culprit. Apparently ultrasounds are still new technology in that they haven't had long term studies performed on them. Current research shows that in mice the children of mother rats that have frequent ultrasounds are fine, but the grandchildren are not. This may be why kids of of Gen X (which was the first generation to have lots of ultrasounds while in the womb) have higher incidences of autism.
My maternity yoga teacher asks everybody whether the have their baby vaccinated and gave me this strange look when I told her: of course, don't want her to get any of those diseases! She also started this talk about the connection between autism and vaccinations, I didn't know that debate existed, but didn't really make sense to me, sounded a bit like a hoax. And I guess this hoax will probably be talked about more than the article you linked to!
