He stared down at his strawberry popsicle. Watching pieces of it drip down into the clear water, he sighed. His feet dangled just barely above the water - whose bright idea had it been to share ice cream on the bridge wall, anyways?

"We'll be in high school come fall," He softly whispered to the wind. "Isn't it a little scary? We won't rule the middle school anymore."

The wind blew in his face. He couldn't really see anymore; he knew the wind had blown his brunet locks out of place.

"Haha, very funny," He scowled, brushing his hair out of his face.

"Rhys?"

He blinked, turning to face the orange-haired girl sitting beside him. "What is it, Nory?"

She licked her popsicle, then saying, "You scared about high school? You know you shouldn't be."

"Yeah, I know we're going to the same school," Rhys admitted. "Yet.. it's still scary all the same. I mean, our classes are gonna be harder."

"Oy," Heron called out, taking his popsicle out of his mouth. The red ring around his face appeared to make him seem even more fiery than normal. "We're still going to be together, aren't we?"

They were.

... They were!

Rhys' face immediately brightened. "Yeah," He said. "We're all gonna stay in the same school."

"Thank you, Captain Obvious," Heron shook his head lightly.

Everyone laughed.

"Sorry," Rhys teasingly retorted. "I guess my fears just weren't good enough to mess with, huh?"

Heron stuck his red tongue out.

More laughter rang over the water. Nory especially had to place her hands over her stomach to contain it all.

Phobe put her finished popsicle stick in the grocery store bag they decided to use as a trash can bag. "Hey, guys," She called. "You wanna see the pictures I developed once we're all done?"

"I don't see why not," Nory thoughtfully said. "I mean, we are all spending the night together."

True, it normally wasn't a good idea to let four kids of different genders in one house for the night. Especially when two were boys and two were girls. (Most parents would've automatically said no) Yet, these kids were... different. When they had sleepovers, they would immediately segregate themselves to please their folks.

Nory and Phoebe would sleep with Heron's or Rhys's sisters (depending on which house they went to); Heron and Rhys would chat it up with Nory's or Pheobe's brothers.

Honestly? Rhys, Heron, and Phoebe's parents had all been through this situation. They believed in their kids' morals, and didn't think twice about letting them sleep over. It was just Nory's parents who went berserk and demanded different rooms.

But hey, at least they'd let her sleepover. Period.

"You know," Rhys began.

Everyone else called out, "What?"

He laughed. "Well, I think it's great that we can stick together no matter what. Let's make this sleepover insanely fun, okay?"

They nodded.

Rhys climbed from his seat, taking the finished popsicle sticks (and bag) down to the trashcan. He turned to face everyone.

"Come on," He called. "It's almost night."

They followed, laughing over their plans for the evening. So they were no longer in middle school - the awkward days banished far away, never to be seen again. (Oh, but the stories would come back to haunt them)

Yet, it would be fine, wouldn't it?

Yes.

Because they would be together.
