gah... just got out of a final. I really hate poorly designed exams... such a damn pain. To give you an idea of what I mean, here's a sample from today's final (luckily this question also showed up on the midterm, and I happened to remember the answer from before ( Read more... )

Sounds like you need to take that exam to the district chair and complain.

seriously! dude... well, I'll probably wait until we see what the distribution looks like... if we all do terribly, and it's clear that it's impossible to distinguish good and bad performances in the class based on the exam, I just might. Or at least go talk to the professor and see if he plans on adjusting things somehow. sigh. anyhow, thanks... :)

Good thing you did complainrs about it...at least that way you remembered what it was supposed to be.

I know... dude. thank goodness for complainrs. I just feel bad for all the other students who didn't happen to memorize the answer from the last exam...

The unfortunate thing was that that wasn't the only amazingly stupid question on the test (for example, he also asked, "_____ is the concentration of magnesium." the concentration of magnesium in what, no one knows... gah.), so who knows how it'll turn out... at least everyone else's probably as confused as me. :)

I would have been calling the teacher up to ask what the hell he was talking about. If no one says anything, nothing gets fixed. I had a teacher who was capable of writing questions like that and not noticing until someone asked. Thank gods Jiri is her TA this year and is going over all of her exams. Their quality has gone up four points right there.

I know... unfortunately he didn't show up to the exams (just the TA's and they had no idea either)... I'm sort-of tempted to go pester the prof about it now, anyhow, but I dunno.

But yeah, it definitely would've helped if the TA's had gone over the exams before hand and caught all the stuff that was unclear... sigh. ah well. I'm definitely going over the final for the class I'm TA-ing...
