Get me out of this Country

Jun 26, 2005 01:13

I will be delighted when I can read over 90% of my journals and think back on the whimsical, carefree, technicolor dreamscape experiences. Instead of running into a trainwreck of a journal like this one is about to turn out. Talk about a series of unfortunate events. Well, I was on a normal patrol Thur. and things were looking up cause it seemed ( Read more... )

It looks as though we might be home earlier than expected. As I was told we have less than 90 days left in this dust pit. The guy ended up getting hit in the shoulder/chest region but some of the particles of metal bounced off his ribs into his abdominal area. He's o.k. but had to get his spleen removed. Everyone is happy to hear the good news but we are fed-up with these people and are not playing "Mr. nice guy" anymore. This was the first incedent like this for our company of about 90 people who go outside the base to patrol, so we are even more determined to make sure it never happens again.

If ANYONE has a right to complain here it is YOU my dear. You have been uplifting and encouraging to me since you started and my problems are a mere .0001% of yours. I couldn't even handle the THOUGHT of going everyday in a place so hostile and uncertain. Honestly, I don't even like being back in the states because it is so much more violent and uncertain than here. I live in a very peaceful and easy society now. And I am thankful for that everyday. And I am proud that as an American, my country helped give these wonderful people back THEIR freedom during WW2. Tomas just told me a story about a man he did a photography assignment about when he was in art school. His name was Thorolf Rafto and his son started the "raftoprisen" http://raftoutv.rdrift.no/Default.aspx?tabid=510 in his honor. It's a foundation for human rights. Tomas told me that during WW2 Thorolf spent his military time in England fighting with the RAF or with Bomber, he's not sure now. ( ... )

That guy sounds very interesting. In high school we had a sub that was a prisoner at Aushwitz and she was the same way...always smiling and embracing people and each day.

It always seemed to me that in a world full of people who are suppose to be at the top of the evolution chain, intellegent beyond anything created, that we could come up with a way to deal with our disagreements other that violence. I mean most our laws are based on control violence and letting people know that it will not be tolerated in a civil society. Where did the human race go wrong and why was this hypocracy allowed to fester for so long. Why haven't we been able to solve the problem of worldwide violence? And why is our country supporting such defeatist ideas? I'm included in this hypocracy and as soon as I can I'll correct that mistake and never make it again. Thanks sandyfish for the words of encouragment, they really uplift my spirit.

That is fucked up. I'm glad you're okay.

Say, when are you going to be back in Shreveport?

I'll be back in the fall hopefully less than 90 days. I'm planning on moving to Austin or maybe Arizona in the winter so the party will be immediately upon return to the states. I'll be sure to let you know when and where just in case you can join me in the celebration.

Well hell, if that's an invitation I'd love to come! I was planning on officially heading up Shreveport way sometime in October or thereabouts, it'd be cool to meet up. :)

Cool, maybe I'll make it a pre or post Holloween party. Make it a theme party. Yeh, I know in light of Star Wars maybe a clone party where you clone a friend or someone you find interesting. Or a gender bender party, now that would be fabulous.
