If she wasn't there, he couldn't say goodbye to her. But she had to be there.
Jeb was standing near the door, giving Cain time to speak to each of his friends. She knew Jeb was watching her, but she continued to stare at the floor, keeping her expression neutral.
She had no right to ask him to stay, because it would be for her own benefit. Not his.
Cain's hat was in his hands, the collar of his duster pulled up like he was getting ready to walk out into a downpour - which he was, because it had been raining all morning - and his red vest was over his striped shirt.
Two years... one might think he would get a second change of clothes.
He wanted to go, and she had to accept that.
It's not like she needed him to survive, anyway. And he wasn't going to stop being her friend.
She watched as he had words with Glitch, then Raw. He shook her father's hand and bowed to her mother. He nodded to Azkadellia and then stepped over to her.
"Don't have too much fun, DG." She blinked and forced a smile.
That was five.
