Though, in the privacy of the internet, I will admit to being a bad person. I have one friend that I sort of do that to on purpose. She has the "one-up" mentality. If you tell her a trouble, she has to tell you why hers are worse. Of course, she does it in the guise of "empathisizing," though often they aren't even related ("I got a speeding ticket today, I'm a bit stressed on how to pay it." "Yeah, well my cat died last week, so I know what you mean about being stress." WTF?)
