You don't seem like the ones from back home. They were a bit swarthier and not nearly as eloquent when they spoke. Even the captain.

Swarthier? I'd say I'm swarthy as need be. Though it's never struck me as a terribly high priority.
Can't say I'm much of a basis to go by in judging the eloquence of pirates in my own world, but a few of us are possessed of an education...or some facsimile there of.
