I finished mockingjay yesterday. IDK what to think. Before I read the books, I asked my sister what she thought of them, and she said she didn't really like them, because the idea was interesting, but she didn't really like where the story went. I haven't talked about them with her since (she's out of town) but I think I agree with her.
I guess I was just disappointed with how the second two books repeated the first book so much. I really devoured the first book, like, couldn't put it down, but toward the end, I was like "omg are the games EVER GOING TO END?" Because ngl I was getting a little bored with them. I wanted these books to be about political cunning and clever plots to bring down a repressive government.
When the second book brought them back to the games, I could have screamed, I was so annoyed. To me, it was a loss, I just finished it so I could see what happened in the end. I figured there was no way to have the games YET AGAIN in the third book.
And they didn't, exactly, but the final scene in the Capitol is extremely reminiscent of the games and I was just...come on. This is so repetitive.
The epilogue made me feel really bad for Katniss, though. Wow did she get a shitty deal. Even the happy ever end has a pretty hollow ring to it, because none of it is how she would have chosen.
IDK I feel like it's only at the very end that Katniss realizes that EVERYONE is using her. I would have liked it better if she had realized that a lot earlier and then she could have been more subversive. To me, that would have made for a more interesting book.
Also, too many makeover scenes.
as for shipping, all I gots is this: OT3. you know it.
