You wake up every morning and things become routine. You roll over, press your face to a warm bunch of hair, murmur something about breakfast. Find strength for a shower, a cup of coffee, maybe the morning news, a quick dressing and then off to work. Cup of aforementioned coffee in hand still. This was her life in New Jersey with Remy. Then there was the trip to Thailand, where things were hot but much the same, a cup of coffee, a quick, heated grope, a little less clothing and off to work

Remy feels like the the past few days have been an exercise in controlled silence that eventually ended when she finally came clean to House what had happened, and had decided she wanted to be a doctor again. She'd done her time, literally, and was doing her time at work now. And that was easy, because it was just work. But when she saw Riley, everything else faded away. That wasn't easy at all

There are a couple ways you can handle seeing someone you're not prepared to see, or just flat out don't want to see. It's not that Riley doesn't want to see Remy it's just - okay - seeing Remy makes her heart hurt and her throat close up. Six months later. Six months spent traveling, working, drinking and generally trying to shut out any memory of the woman she loved and, no use. Loved? Loves? Love. Loves. There's no way that can be avoided it's like they've never been apart, like six months never happened.
"Hey," she responds because she doesn't know what else to say. "I didn't know you would be here." Working, in a hospital, after you killed your brother. Because one day you're going to do the same thing to yourself or ask me to do that to you and I can't stand to think about that. Thank God her inner monologues aren't broadcasted.
"I just started." It doesn't seem like the right thing to say, so she follows it with a shrug. "Back. Pending... review." For the Thing That She Did that drove them apart. Which is crazy, because Remy spent six months trying to remember a life without Riley and failing.
She doesn't ask why Riley wasn't there to pick her up. She knows the answer and doesn't want to hear it out loud. She doesn't really want to say anything, but there's so much that needs to be said that it chokes her into silence and all she does is stare, and half-reach to take Riley's hand.
"I thought maybe you went back to Vegas or something." Anywhere but where Remy would be.
