[Tanquered had been his home, a place where he found comfort in all of the small things. It seemed that despite his attempts to circumvent his situation, he was certainly pleased to know that at the very least he had a place that would welcome him. As he was. As he was intended to be. He was missing a small piece of his puzzle, but he would have ( Read more... )

[Anna doesn't want to be here.

Going to a party of one of the most powerful vampires in the city when you're already what's on the menu wouldn't be smart in a normal universe, but in this universe -- refusing the invitation could be far worse.

Not to say that Anna liked it. She didn't. She'd been there for a month, and she was already sick of it, but she knew that fighting it wasn't going to get her anywhere. These weren't like the vamps back home. And the rules weren't the same.

So this is Anna, at the party, feeling a little apprehensive, but hoping that at the end of the night she will walk out of the party with most of her blood still in her body.

Hopefully.]

[Klaus circles around the girl, smirking softly as his hand brushes over the back of her hair.]

Are you enjoying yourself?

[she tenses at the hand to her hair -- personal contact from someone she doesn't quite trust isn't welcome, but she doesn't pull away. She doesn't want to offend him, which arguably could be worse.

She paints on a smile and nods]

Yeah. You know how to throw a great party.

[Yes, it would be much worse to flinch away and show fear.]

It's not as grand as the ones back home, but we do try to exceed expectations at the very least when forced to work with what's available.

I think too grand isn't always too everyone's tastes. If you really want to welcome everyone, sometimes you have to lower the bar.

And how low do you think the bar should be set? [He's curious.]

[shrugs]

Where I'm from, all you really need for a good time is a beer and a jukebox. But compared to this, that might be setting the bar a little too low.

Perhaps, I'll keep that in mind for the next event. [He smiles at her, trying to keep her in the conversation with him.]

[smiles back -- she is capable of being polite]

I hope you do.
