“I want to buy a house,” Jaejoong spoke in hushed tones as he sat beside Yunho.
“A house?” Yunho cocked an eyebrow at him.
“Mm,” Jaejoong hummed, “It’s going to have windows, lots of them. I like windows, you know.”
“I know,” He said, smiling fondly at Jaejoong’s musings.
Yunho scooted closer to Jaejoong and slid an arm across his shoulders. He began to rub his hand up and down along Jaejoong’s upper arm in a tender caress, and was rewarded with a pleased smile.
“And I want at least 3 bedrooms. We’ll have a master suite with the biggest bed we can find and a whole bunch of pillows on top,” he laughed softly to himself, “We’ll have so many that we’ll be able to climb them like a mountain.”
Jaejoong turned and tucked his head into Yunho’s neck, affectionately snuffling his cold nose against the dip of Yunho’s collar bone.
“That sounds nice,” Yunho whispered.
Jaejoong was slowly drifting off in his arms and despite having witnessed Jaejoong’s ability to fall asleep near instantaneously many times before, Yunho still shook his head slightly in wonder. As someone who didn’t often fall asleep easily, it had always baffled and amused him.
“Pillows are great. I really like pillows...” Jaejoong murmured as his eyes slid shut.
“I know.”
“You know, you know; you always know,” Jaejoong grumbled, “M’gonna start calling you that.”
Yunho laughed heartily, his head leaning backwards to rest on the wall behind him.
Jaejoong curled in closer to Yunho, stretching his legs sideways across Yunho’s longer ones. He curled one hand into the front of Yunho’s jacket and slipped the other around Yunho’s waist, up under his clothing and against his bare skin.
Yunho twitched violently as the chilled fingers dug into his side playfully.
“Yah! If you’re not going to warm your hand up first, at least warn me before you do that,” he exclaimed.
“Yunho-yah is so warm. You’ll warm it for me, won’t you?” Jaejoong snuggled deeper into Yunho’s chest, more than ready to fall asleep.
“Always,” he promised as he pressed a soft kiss against Jaejoong’s forehead.
“ - really do wanna house,” Jaejoong mumbled as he finally succumbed to his tiredness.
“I know,” Yunho whispered to himself.
He looked down at Jaejoong, to watch him as he slept, and pursed his lips in sorrow. A frown was marring Jaejoong’s brow. Jaejoong was the vision of innocence when he slept, Yunho thought, and such a dark expression should never be allowed to taint his face. With a light touch, he smoothed the deep furrow between Jaejoong’s eyebrows.
“I’m going to make your dreams come true,” Yunho whispered solemnly, “I swear I will, Jaejoongie.”
Jaejoong was quiet in his arms. In the biting cold of the air, the puffs of his breath felt hot against Yunho’s throat.
“I’ll build you a house, even bigger than you can imagine, and you can have whatever you want; pillows, windows, and all.”
He eased Jaejoong’s grip on the front of his jacket and clasped the pale hand in his own. Staring down at their twined fingers, he stroked the back of Jaejoong’s hand with his thumb; back, and forth, and back again. Jaejoong liked it when he did that. He said he found it comforting.
Jaejoong didn’t know that Yunho had formed the habit in an effort to comfort himself.
Yunho sighed heavily, his breath forming misty clouds as it left his mouth.
“But there will be lots of mountains on the way there... You don’t mind waiting, right?” he said as he squeezed Jaejoong’s hand in his own, “We’ll climb them together, and then we’ll be there before you know it.”
He raised his hand to Jaejoong’s face, and his fingertips caressed Jaejoong’s cool cheek.
“I love you, you know?”
Jaejoong smiled in his sleep.
Yunho tugged on the ragged piece of cardboard beside him and moved it over to Jaejoong’s side of the wall. When he was finished, he returned his hand to his lap, clasping Jaejoong’s fingers tightly in his own once more. Then, carefully, so as not to wake Jaejoong, Yunho tucked their interwoven hands under the edge of his jacket to ward off the chill in the air. With a soft sigh, he leaned his head against Jaejoong’s and closed his eyes against the bright lights of the train station and the murmur of others around him who were also settling in for the night.
Amidst their cardboard castle, two boys drifted off to dreams of mountains made of pillows in a house with glass windows.

He said, ‘I’m going to have a bed with lots of pillows.’
And that we’re gonna to build a house with lots of windows.
Yeah we’ll climb mountains,
Climb mountains, together.
Yeah we’ll climb mountains,
Climb mountains, together.

A/N: Ah, this turned out bit angsty right? Sorry, I’ve been all emoshinki. I’ve given this story an alternate title as well - Of Dreams and Cardboard Castles - but I thought it might give away the ending, so I stuck with the other one.
