Of all the scenarios he played in his mind, he has to admit he had never thought of this one, ever. He doesn’t know exactly why, maybe it’s because when he looked at James Bond everything seemed just so bloody perfect, the hero getting the girl (preferably in bed) while saving the world and all the while being always perfectly dressed in his suit and all his precious hair in perfect order.

Or maybe it’s just because he sinned of hubris, like the Greeks called it. He has always been so full of himself, so damn perfect, never wrong- and that’s what got his mother killed - and he has never considered the possibility of committing a mistake, nor that same mistake could actually cost him his own life.

He hates that his father knew his so well.

He slides along the corridor, his back against the rough and cold concrete, cold sweat running on his body, because he just knows what will be there, around the corner, waiting for him- armed soldiers of fortune, protecting the weapon of mass destruction of the last jackass waiting to turn into a world- conqueror wonnabe.  Why the hell did he accept the job? Why the hell he joined the intelligence at all, he wonders.

Another step, one closer to his end.

He goes for his gun, but something stops him. that’s not the right approach, and he knows it. These guys will be heavy-armed, and his 9 mm?  It would be like the shadow of a touch for them. But maybe… maybe there’s something they aren’t ready for, something they don’t know, something not even his bosses back in the Intelligence know.

He is a bloody mutant, a damn homo superior, and he may not have sworn to save and protect a world that hates and persecutes him because he is misunderstood, but he took a vow nevertheless. He promised to save his country and his Queen, and he’ll be damned if he’ll not do just that.

Besides, there’s the little particular that he tends to care for his own lie, and dying right now would just be unfair. It would be unfair for all the poor women waiting to be rescued by Wisdom, Pete Wisdom, in order to get in his bed.

He turns the corner, and here they are. Just like he thought they would be.

He grins  and, under the shocked stares of the soldiers, he offers them his two guns, literally throwing them at them , like he would surrender, even if his expression says the complete opposite.  He crosses his arms, clenching and unclenching his fists, still grinning in an evil kind of way, his eyes focused on the cage just at the back of his “pals”, where that generator of home-made earthquakes shines in all its brand new glory.

He takes another step closer to the machine, another step closer to the soldiers, and while they point their guns at him, he grins, opening his arms for them and showing bright lights coming from his hands, like daggers thrown from an invisible force directly from his body-  they weren’t waiting for this, weren’t waiting for him to happen.

He takes another step closer, and then another one, and with every step, one of them falls.  He doesn’t feel the blood, his own, leaving his body, he just sees them, falling, dying,  punctured by his blades of solar energy.

He takes another step, then another and another, until he is just before the cage, the sole human being left alive, bodies burning at his back. He takes the last shot, destroying the machine in the blink of an eye.  Only then he allows himself to collapse, finally noting his unfortunate state.

He wonders when it went all wrong. Because he should ‘t be collapsing in a pool of his own blood. He should be with a girl right now. Then, why isn’t he?
