"She drove leaving the rainbow of city lights on the Miracle Mile in her rear view mirror. She drove past palm trees, past steaming streets which reverberated with doubt and disease. She drove past the faces of the night, illuminated with drugs, fever or desire. Faces drawn to the city like moths to a giant klieg light, only to be bought, sold and pushed like a commodity, judged based only on their broken shells. Or, was it worse to never even be seen at all?"

- Man! That is one BEAUT of a passage! Reading this made me flashback to my Honors English classes in high school. It's exactly the kind of passage that my teachers would include in an exam with a "Discuss the author's use of imagery and metaphor..."

Wow, thanks. That's such a huge compliment. *blushes*
Now, go to sleep. It's late! :-)

Glad you liked it.

Can't. I'm taking care of some "homework". Gotta stay up - but needed some mental "Rockstar" to keep my mind fresh! Thanks for the pick-me-up!

"It wasn’t every day a woman ended up with an agitated, hell bent, tattooed, ex-prisoner, innocent-man-turned-thug-with-a-badge for a partner who tried to paw her, to push his tongue in her mouth. Scared. Yeah, he got it.

On the other hand, I’m kind to animals and I have excellent oral hygiene, he thought with a small smile."

"Tomorrow, there would be awkward silences, and possibly some scratching and biting."

-*guffaws* What in the-? Gaaaah! You just have Charlie's weirdness DOWN TO A SCIENCE, girlfriend! Those are EXACTLY the kinds of hilarious non sequiturs you'd expect from someone as offbeat, off-his-rocker as Charlie! What I would give to hear Damian Lewis actually do those lines!

Can't wait to see all that scratchy, bitey awkwardness in your next chapter! *rubs hands in glee*

Hee! Glad you like those bits. For some bizarre reason, Charlie is more of my POV character than Reese, and I have a much harder time writing her than Charlie.
I just love The Crewster.

Actually, Awkward is in the title of the next chapt, so hope I don't disappoint. LOL

That's too bad that you're up so late on purpose. I would have thought Adlervan's Dream 12 would have been enough mental rockstar to keep you going into next week. WOW?

LOL

Between the two of you and your tremendous writing talents, it's a wonder I get ANYTHING done!

"That's too bad that you're up so late on purpose."

- (once more with feeling) Ahhh the life of a salaried employee...work for 1 hour get paid for 8, work for 20 hours get paid for 8... *smiles resignedly*

I can't remember if I mentioned but I really *love* the description of Dani driving through the city... it felt so noir and felt like LA Philip Marlowe's LA.

And, to Dani Reese, that sounded like all the second chances in the world.

This. Makes me simultaneously want to hug her and say: Oh, Dani.

Charlie thinking he scared Dani because of who he was... misreading completely *why* Dani ran away but that's him, a little clueless about it and understandably so. Dani is difficult to pin down sometimes.

Makes you want to sit them down so they can finally talk, don't it?

Glad you liked the LA description, because to tell you the truth that was really inspired by all our talk about the city and your love for it.

"This. Makes me simultaneously want to hug her and say: Oh, Dani."

*nods furiously* Me, too.

Yeah, what I love about Charlie is that he's so hard and damaged and wonderful and smart and instinctive and all that stuff we think is great about him. But, he's still a MAN. And, they are alaways a bit clueless, misreading things.

And, also I think it is so sad that he'd now think of himself as being kind of scary. And, I love the sad.

Love awkward Dani and Charlie.

Why would they slap each other with a cat?

Well, slappy, slappy scratchy stuff, but first other stuff. And, of course, other stuff.
