The idea was to use the kettle on the wood stove in the winter to boil water and humidify the air. I had an inkling this was Japanese, and some 'net research confirmed that. It is supposed to be used to make and serve tea, not for boiling water (for tea or otherwise). It has a stainless steel infusion basket and is enameled on the inside (to prevent rust). So, I don't know what we'll do with it. We'll have to see. These tetsubin are quite the collectible -- 95% of the Google hits are for eBay or other auctions. So maybe it will just be heavy art for our house (just what we need ;-p).
