Gravity Probe B status

General relativity, the theory of gravity, is hard to test, because we don't live near any strong gravitational fields. "Strong" means something like the gravity of a black hole; Earth's gravity is really weak by comparison. Successful tests have taken two different routes: either find a place in the universe where gravity is strong, and infer ( Read more... )

You know, it's not like I don't *believe* most of modern physics, on an intellectual level, but in some way it still blows my mind to see (or at least read about) time-dilation effects happening to an actual, physical clock. Way cool. The other experiment is also awesome.

My brian boggles at the engineering and manufacturing precision required of that experiment.
