I think that in many cases, people want the ones close to them to be with them y'know. It seems most often to be happy together, and at times for comfort. But it is usually less often that they seek that companionship in bad times.

And yet despite that, regardless of whether the person is separated by distance or is by their side, they will still be essentially alone in the end.

Why wish for others to be tormented and toyed with if you truly care for such a person?

The bad things that could happen to others or oneself can be easily overlooked on one or more sides in favor of the desired companionship. It is just as often that when a person cares they want to share a person's burdens as well as their happiness, regardless of if the other person doesn't want to burden them so.

It's not a wish directly for shared suffering y'know.

That is impossible.

Even if it were, in a place such as this, the moment a God decides to uphold his or her power it becomes a shared pain. The endless loop which the Lilin seem to catch themselves within, one person's pain becoming another's and so on.

Alcohol tends to multiply the feeling of despair and the like, it is something most should avoid.

A wonderful assessment, Kaworu. Though I don't quite think that it is intentional, merely the indication of 'homesick' as the phrase goes.

A mere mention does not lend to a useful conversation, Arro.

Perhaps you're right.

Going a bit further indepth, the 'homesickness' stems from insecurities that can only be mitigated by forming new social bonds.

The easier route is for the people they already have bonds with to reappear.

Perhaps there's a third option I've missed?

You have missed the point that I was not asking about the related topic of 'homesickness'.
