i'm disappointed, more than a little disillusioned, and irrationally angry with my boyfriend. and i feel like a horrible person.

No, it's not bullshit. My adviser says that his grandmother used to say: "A no you've already got in your pocket."
What isn't bullshit is that being rejected always sucks. And there's not much you can do about it--too much is random chance, circumstances, and what not. You prepared, you submitted, you interviewed--that's all you can do. And then do it again somewhere else. Get used to it--especially if you want to do any writing.
