Lucifer watched Baby curiously from the corner of the bed. The car had been puzzling over the instructions for a time, and he recalled their initial meeting on a bus. He didn’t know how to read. Perhaps he should teach him. Not a long term goal, but it was something that did give him at least a small sense of direction. He picked up the cards again, fiddling with them while Baby tried to at least mop up a little of the mess.
“You don’t have to go to any trouble.” Hot chocolate was something his little brother would have loved. Lucifer resolutely squashed that morose train of thought and attempted to shuffle the cards, which promptly scatter everywhere. With a look that might have almost been a smile, he gathers them back up and deposits the deck in front of Baby. “Perhaps you should deal.”
It was enough that Baby had invited him in, treating him like a guest and not a fallen archangel and (former) danger to his humans, Sam and Dean Winchester. Lucifer held up the bag of M&Ms. “You gamble with these?”
"I don't have a soul to offer, and I can't play the fiddle." Baby smiled, joking. How he'd become so comfortable around Lucifer, of all creatures, he didn't know - but if Baby could trust him enough to let him up his ass, he could sit and play cards with him in their motel room.
And yeah, it was weird, and if he did have a soul there was no way he was getting into Heaven after voluntarily having sodomous sex with Satan; but they were friends. Ish. Sam and Dean would have simultaneous heart attacks if they knew...but they didn't have to know.
Baby shuffled the deck expertly - gambling was the Winchester's bread and butter - and dealt their hands.
"So you've got five cards in your hand; there are four suits." Baby picked up a card from the deck, displaying the suit. "Clubs, Clovers, Hearts, and Diamonds. Then there are fourteen faces - Aces, ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes, sevens, eights, nines, tens, jacks, queen, and kings..."
Sometimes Baby felt bad about the sort-of friendship they had going on. Bad about keeping it a secret - as much as he knew he was supposed to, Baby couldn't regret it. Sam and Dean were still worried about the apocalypse, about Lucifer coming after them...and Baby hadn't eased their minds. He knew it wouldn't work, anyway, telling them that Lucifer had stepped down. They'd still be suspicious and they'd still try to kill him...and Baby hadn't had sex with him just to let Sam and Dean kill him. Not that they could, but Baby didn't want Lucifer to have to hurt them, either, even if it was self-defense.
So Baby had invited Lucifer over - which involved praying to the Devil, because that was normal - when Sam had gone to the library to research and Dean had taken off in search of a bar
