It had to be cold where they were huddled on the roof outside his window, but Lex silenced every move he made at mentioning it. They had been out for hours; Clark had tracked the moon all the way across the frigid, empty sky and to the lip of the horizon.

He shivered unconsciously, and Lex turned to him sharply.

“You’re cold?” His eyes glinted, turning on Clark like a cat stalking its prey.

“Aren’t you?” he parried, and swallowed any of the other things he might think to say with Lex’s eyes on him.

He hooked a finger into the ripped fabric of his jeans, and managed to let it distract him long enough that when he glanced at Lex again he was back to staring at the snow covered fields.

He turned back to Clark, and his lips were curled into the smirk that never failed at making Clark’s skin heat. “No,” he said, slow and drawling.

“I think we should --” he began.

Lex grabbed his hand, folding it into his in a way that made Clark half believe he really could hold him, if Clark chose to move. He didn’t. Lex narrowed his eyes, “Stay here.”

He nodded, pushing into Lex until they were nearly wrapped together. Lex’s hand never left his, and Clark’s heart never slowed its frantic beating.
