What is Wrong with Me?

Before I begin this entry, I first want to say that I watched "Iron Jawed Angels" this evening. It is one of my favorite movies, starring Hilary Swank who plays the role of Alice Paul. It is a movie about the National Women's Suffrage Association and the National Women's Party during the times when women were not legally allowed to vote. It is a ( Read more... )

Aw. :-/

I'm not sure that you need a job.
I do believe that humans need to feel like they have Done Something Useful Today. If they don't get that feeling they get very sad and listless. But not all jobs will do that, and not all things that do that are jobs.

For example my mom has her newsletter, and my girlfriend is active in fandom.
Some people get that feeling from MMORPGs, but that's sort of weird if you think about it. (Also not everyone can convince themselves that killing imaginary orcs counts as "useful".)
Are you still volunteering with puppies and kittens? I would have thought that would be really good, for doing something useful...

Yeah, I still help at the shelter when I have the time to go, I'm also about to start running 5K races in surrounding areas here soon. Mike just frowns upon a lot of it, because I'm not making money and I'm not really contributing. Mike really wants me to get a job, so I can take care of myself, and I guess I just get frustrated that I don't want that more. It just frustrates Mike, and then frustrates me for feeling like I am just a mooch or not contributing enough.

Sometimes it just makes me feel inadequate, I guess.

When I use to feel like this I heard this phrase and it helped me a lot: "Get out of your own way." As dumb as it sounds it makes a lot of sense. Your not stupid and your not worthless your a good person. You gotta realize though that you can't please everybody. Friends come and go but your real friends will be around though it all.

Thanks for the kind reply. I needed to hear that :) It's not even necessarily pleasing everyone. Even if someone dislikes me, I still want to be graceful and respectful about it. I think I care most about pleasing the people I actually care a lot about, like my family and close friends.

I mean, most of my struggle just comes with dealing with people that I strongly disagree with. I don't want to be furious about it, I want to be more understanding. I want it to be more like, "I don't agree with you, but I understand why you might feel that way." That is what I want to strive to become.
